Faridpur Development Agency

The Faridpur Development Agency (FDA) is a non-government social development organization dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged communities.

Following Bangladesh’s liberation, many people faced unemployment, hunger, and homelessness, living in precarious and uncertain conditions. A significant portion of the population relied entirely on relief aid. During this challenging period, a group of young, patriotic individuals stepped forward to transform the livelihoods of the impoverished in the region.

Initially, they focused on advocating for landless people, helping them secure rights to khas land in char areas. After years of persistent effort, these communities began to gain legal access to the land. Recognizing the need for sustained development support for the disadvantaged, this group of advocates established the Faridpur Development Agency (FDA) to formalize their efforts.

Founded by a team of educated social workers driven by a spirit of volunteerism, FDA aimed to enhance the socio-economic conditions of rural poor and marginalized populations. In 1978, the organization launched its first initiatives with funding from BDSC, focusing on awareness campaigns, education, and water and sanitation programs.

Today, FDA is widely recognized as a leading rural development organization. As of October 2024, it employs 252 staff members and operates across 711 villages in 78 unions of Faridpur district. Its flagship programs include the Microfinance Program, Non-Formal Primary Education Program, Skill Development Program, and Aquaculture Development Project (AqDP). By October 2024, FDA has organized 2,347 rural groups, directly benefiting 49,965 families.

One of FDA’s standout initiatives is its Non-Formal Primary Education Program, which has provided literacy and education services to over 46,856 illiterate individuals through 1,293 centers, making a lasting impact on the region.
