Agriculture Development Program

Transforming Rural Lives Through Sustainable Agriculture

Agriculture is the backbone of Bangladesh’s economy, serving as a catalyst for sustainable development and economic growth for decades. It is the largest source of employment and plays a vital role in revitalizing the rural economy. Recognizing the importance of agriculture, FDA has been providing agricultural loans since its inception.

Agricultural Loan Distribution

FDA supports agricultural production by offering loans and training to small and medium-scale farmers and sharecroppers. In the fiscal year 2022-2023, FDA disbursed agricultural loans totaling BDT 1,925,020,000 to 4,264 families. In the fiscal year 2023-2024, FDA disbursed a total of BDT 9,197,630,000 under its Agricultural Program.

Group Dynamics

To enhance the effectiveness of the microfinance program, FDA has adopted a group dynamics approach. This initiative includes financial support alongside group activities that focus on improving the socio-economic conditions of members. These activities include:

  • Household well-being

  • Mental health awareness

  • Tree plantation

  • Awareness meetings

  • Prevention of child marriage

  • Dengue prevention

As part of this initiative, FDA’s field officers plant trees at the homes of three members from each group and ensure year-round care for them.

FDA’s staff actively monitor the planted trees, engaging with members to provide continuous guidance and support.

Social Impact

FDA’s Agricultural Development Program has made significant contributions to rural economic growth and food security. The program has had a transformative impact on communities by:

  • Creating Employment Opportunities: Agriculture-based financial support has enabled small-scale farmers to expand their businesses, leading to job creation in rural areas.

  • Enhancing Food Security: By empowering farmers to increase crop production, the program helps ensure a stable food supply and reduce dependency on imports.

  • Improving Rural Livelihoods: Farmers who receive financial assistance experience improved living conditions and greater financial stability.

  • Environmental Sustainability: Initiatives like tree plantation contribute to ecological balance, reducing carbon footprints and increasing green coverage.

  • Women’s Empowerment: The program supports female farmers and women’s groups, promoting financial independence and community development.

Through these efforts, FDA continues to uplift communities, enabling sustainable agricultural growth and socio-economic development.
